Hi there! I'm Jocelyn Conrad, the maker behind Jocie Pots.
I am a native of Greenville, South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Brevard College in North Carolina. My small batch ceramics company, Jocie Pots, was founded in 2015 and coined after my nickname Jocie. I create functional pieces embellished with botanical patterns and clean even glazes. My current work focuses on altered thrown forms exploring techniques that stretch the limits of clay. Some of my favorite techniques are carving, piercing, and cutting shapes throughout the clay body. I am inspired by the power that nature has to continue to grow around, up, and through materials that were made to be built upon it. The finished pieces create sculptural forms that can stand alone or be further enhanced with flora or their intended functionality.
I am a sentimentalist, a lover of all things old that have history, and scars, and a story. I can’t go for a walk without bringing back treasures. My tool box is a hodge-podge of handmade trappings passed down to me from other potters, crocheted patterns by relatives, and those treasures from long walks.
The Palace is my studio; a wooden sign is hung above the door as an homage to my Pepa who shared my love of making things to gift to others.
It took me a long time to get to this point. There were tears and joy and one serious conversation with the Lord that led me to this spot. Here is where you'll see a glimpse into my studio and thoughts that make me who I am. I create things I want to have in my home and my hope is that you love them so much that you want to have them too.
